Overview
Patent-standard analysis can draw on several different forms of technical evidence, including declaration records, normative standards documents, implementation specifications and public product information. This study examines how those layers interact in the Wi-Fi Aware ecosystem. The analysis is conducted at independent-claim level using two complementary technical reference corpora: IEEE normative clauses describing protocol architecture and behaviour, and Wi-Fi Alliance implementation-oriented specifications describing interoperability and operational requirements. Observable certification and open implementation evidence are then used as an additional evidence layer where available. The resulting dataset contains 796 granted U.S. patents across 61 assignees, mappings to 305 IEEE clauses and 555 Wi-Fi Alliance specification sections, and implementation-related records drawn from certified and non-certified sources. 737 patents are represented across both technical corpora, while implementation evidence is observed for 414 patents. The paper uses this setting to examine how normative, implementation-oriented and product-visible evidence provide different perspectives on the same standards ecosystem. It does not treat claim correspondence as a legal determination of essentiality.
